About the Artist
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mary Lynn Talley is a self-taught oil painter from South Louisiana whose work is shaped by the quiet power of the natural world. Raised among wetlands, cypress shadows, and the soft rhythms of coastal wildlife, she paints from a place of deep belonging. Her subjects — from cardinals in winter branches to deer standing watch over forest waterfalls — are rendered with tenderness, symbolism, and a reverence for the landscapes that have held her throughout her life.
Before devoting herself to painting, Mary built a long career as a CPA and senior financial executive, serving as a Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Compliance Officer in the healthcare and insurance industries. Her decades of analytical work inform her artistic practice with a sense of discipline, patience, and intentionality. Yet her paintings reveal the opposite side of her nature: intuitive, emotional, and guided by the quiet stories found in light, water, and wildlife.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mary’s work spans the Louisiana wetlands, mountain wilderness, and intimate wildlife portraits. Across these varied landscapes, her paintings share a common thread — a desire to honor the living world and a passion for preserving the delicate, threatened, and endangered lives that share it. She paints sanctuaries: places where viewers can rest, breathe, and reconnect with the beauty that sustains us.
She lives in Covington, Louisiana, and paints from her home studio.
ABOUT THE WORK
Mary’s paintings explore the meeting place between realism and emotional resonance. Whether depicting a snowy pair of cardinals, a sunflower bright summer fence, or a river winding toward a mountain cabin, her work invites viewers into landscapes that feel both familiar and quietly sacred.
Her brushwork emphasizes atmosphere — the hush of winter light, the warmth of late summer sun, the cool breath of a forest waterfall. Wildlife is portrayed not as decoration but as presence: beings with their own stories, dignity, and stillness. Color plays a central role in her visual language, offering warmth, contrast, and symbolic depth without overwhelming the natural harmony of the scene.
Across all her subjects, Mary paints with a gentle conservation spirit. Her work is an offering — a reminder of the fragile, resilient beauty that surrounds us and the refuge it provides.

Louisiana Wetlands Conservation Series
This series honors the landscapes and wildlife of South Louisiana — a world of marsh grass, cypress reflections, migratory birds, and quiet water. Each painting captures a moment of stillness within a living, breathing ecosystem. Sea turtles rising through green water, pelicans gliding over dusk-lit marshes, cranes drifting across wide skies, and the soft glow of Lake Arthur sunsets all speak to the region’s resilience and vulnerability. The series is both a love letter and a gentle call to remembrance: these wetlands are not just scenery, but home.
Mountain Wilderness Series
In these works, Mary turns her gaze toward the high country — places of vast skies, cold rivers, and towering peaks. Her mountain scenes often feature cabins tucked into autumn forests, eagles soaring above ridgelines, and waterfalls cascading through moss-covered stone. These paintings evoke solitude, freedom, and the restorative quiet of wilderness. Where the wetlands paintings feel intimate and fluid, the mountain works feel expansive and timeless, offering viewers a sense of breath and wide open possibility.
